I started my Media-Art-Design blog Mariouana back in 2010, when I just graduated from college. It existed even before actually, but only in bits and pieces. Once college was done, I was quite free and began blogging consistently. I even participated in some contests that won me a few good bucks through blogging. What was more close to me than this is… my crazy-brain-child Mario’s PJ Time. Back in the January of 2007, when it was just a few months after I started off graduation, my mom bought me my first ever cell phone. Sending my own text messages and forwards was quite fascinating then! Meeting new people in college, adding their numbers, texting them and most of all… getting replies, was the only ‘awesome social network’ that existed. Orkut was very prevalent back then, but the ‘SMS’ was the winner. Now here’s when it struck me, that apart from forwarding joke-chain-texts,  why can’t I send out my own ideas or jokes that I have in plenty in my upper storey and make it into something that people will giggle about. Nothing great, but it’s just the idea of making a slightly better use of that SMS. That’s when I sent out the first ever official Mario’s PJ!

Unfortunately, I don’t have the first MPJ saved anywhere. I do have many that I had sent out that January, but I’m not sure if anyone of them is the first one. That’s because I had saved them from memory after this entire idea went on to become a sweet hit! ;-) However, every MPJ officially sent out anywhere till this day always followed a simple consistent pattern, like this one.

Mario’s PJ Time:
Why shouldn’t we endorse the views and works of American Idol winners…?

…Because an IDOL mind is a devil’s workshop! :D

The SMS’s went on and on and people all around me were talking about MPJTime… well they were talking about it… doesn’t mean they ALL liked it :D In fact, in my first ever job interview, the interviewer asked me to crack a PJ! Some PJs were so popular that they went around in forward-circles and chain-texts and I got them back on my phone after months and some cynical people even told me that my PJs weren’t original and that I copied them from those forwards, when they were actually my own! :) As time went by, the SMS plan didn’t workout as it did in the beginning, because technology and speed of life was changing.

When everyone became aware of the Facebook era, Orkut and SMS networking was pushed to the brink of extinction! Hey, I almost forgot… we did have a MPJTime group on Orkut which was going good, but obviouusly, sank along with Orkut. Now, that did not mean I immediately built the MPJTime empire on facebook… I didn’t and I dunno why! I really should’ve… but then was so busy with college activities that even the SMS chain was slowly fading away. MPJTime did have a few controversies though… some that saddened me so much that I even thought of closing it down! But then, it was friends who made it popular and it was friends who never let it phase out…

It was time to move to facebook for better existence… I had to! So we had our Facebook group and page… and today it’s got 300+ members together. One day, again in January, but this time five years later in 2012, my friend Mario Monteiro… yes another Mario… suggested that I should try condensing my PJs into comic strips. I thought… why not! Walah! I opened a blog/website, sort of a ‘ComicPress’ that same month… and has been running awesome ever since. With a brand new logo (the smiley which has the letters M, P and J in it) and the recent Title Logo (both original trademarks) MPJTime finally got it’s black-and-white brand identity… and I loved that!

The growing popularity and MPJTime’s facebook domain, gave way to the famous MPJ Hall of Fame (also called ‘getting HOF’d) and the most awaited event every year… THE PJ CUP. These are yet to debut on the website and yes… they are coming soon! So far we’ve had 4 deserving winners of The PJ Cup and the one for 2012 is also coming soon! There are also plans to launch the official merchandise too! It’s been a long journey of five years, and never did I imagine those silly sms’s to change into a website and me writing a whole post about it! Something isn’t it…? So… Have you ever seen a PJ… strip? :D Well… you can here!
